Description: One of Steinlen’s most famous images, created to announce his first solo exhibition (paintings, drawings and posters) at the Bodinière gallery, 18 rue Saint-Lazare, Paris, 10 April – 15 May 1894. The artist returns to his signature subject, the cat: a black cat to the fore and a tabby behind, drawn with the vigorous, deceptively simple line that made him the great chronicler of Montmartre. Recorded in the standard catalogues (Bargiel & Zagrodzki 14; Crauzat 492; Cate & Gill 75).
