Description: A harlequin with a mandolin — a Commedia dell’Arte motif recurrent in the artist’s work — painted in watercolour in the collector’s guest book. Born in Nice in 1910, Jean Cassarini trained at the city’s École des Arts Décoratifs, worked as a press illustrator and theatre decorator, and was a founder of the UMAM (Union Méditerranéenne pour l’Art Moderne), the leading modern-art association of the Riviera — placing him at the heart of Yves Guérin’s Nice circle. Dedicated by hand to the collector.
