One of Maurice Denis’s most intimate family compositions, depicting his wife Marthe and their daughters on the sunlit terrace of their villa at Fiesole, near Florence. The Tuscan cypresses and rolling hills create the contemplative, almost sacred atmosphere characteristic of Denis’s domestic scenes.
