Condition: Fresh impression, colours unfaded — green, mauve, blue and ochre. Wide margins, deckle edges intact. Sheet clean, no foxing observed on the recto. Unframed.

One of eight plates commissioned by Ambroise Vollard in 1930 to illustrate a text by André Suarès. The publication was abandoned in 1932 and the plates circulated separately. The clown is a figure Rouault returned to throughout his life.
