Plate from L’Estampe Moderne, the celebrated subscription series published monthly in Paris from May 1897 to April 1899 by Ch. Masson and H. Piazza and printed by Imprimerie Champenois, each issue offering four original lithographs commissioned especially for the publication, complete with a captioned tissue guard. Four studies of the same model in Helleu’s characteristic sanguine manner, the lithographic counterpart to his celebrated drypoints of elegant Parisiennes.
