Description: A theatrical flute player in carnival costume — purple jacket with red frogging, yellow breeches and a wide orange hat — flanked by two smaller costumed figures and a single flower, in a festive, naïve, Commedia-like scene. Claude Tabet was a Paris-born painter, engraver, lithographer, illustrator and ceramist, trained at the Académie de la Grande Chaumière and in Souverbie’s studio, celebrated for his resolutely naïve, festive subjects — markets, the Tuileries, fairs and musicians — conceived like theatre, and widely exhibited abroad. The flute player is one of his recurring subjects. Watercolour, signed and dedicated by hand.
