Condition: good condition, unframed

Provenance: Livre d’Or de Yves Guérin, compiled 1963–1992 (single-owner provenance). Dated from Nice in February 1974 — precisely when Busato held a solo exhibition at the Palais de la Méditerranée in Nice, the establishment the collector directed: the album’s most direct documentary link to that venue.

Description: A vigorous felt-tip drawing of three draped figures — women of Crotone, in Calabria, wrapped in shawls and headscarves, monumental and expressive, one with an arm raised — rendered in bold, brushy black strokes with hatched modelling. Gualtiero Busato was a Franco-Italian sculptor, born at Civitavecchia in 1941, who settled in Paris and specialised in bronze; drawn to classical and poetic subjects rendered with a baroque expressivity, he was elected correspondent of the Académie des beaux-arts in 2004 and created “Les Messagers” for the Saint-Germain-des-Prés metro station. Signed, dated and dedicated by hand.
