Plate 102 of Les Maîtres de l’Affiche, the legendary subscription series published monthly in Paris from December 1895 to November 1900 under the artistic direction of Jules Chéret and printed by Imprimerie Chaix, reproducing in collectable format the finest posters of the Belle Époque. Ibels — a founding member of the Nabis alongside Bonnard and Vuillard, nicknamed “the Nabi journalist” for his scenes of popular Parisian life — designed this poster for Pierrefort, the celebrated poster dealer of the rue Séguier, making it a work of poster art advertising poster collecting itself.
