Provenance: Livre d’Or de Yves Guérin, compiled 1963–1992 (single-owner provenance).

Description: A sensitive charcoal portrait — the head and shoulders of a young woman, her dark hair parted and framing a pale, softly modelled oval face with dark eyes, set against a vertically hatched dark ground, with a small accent of blue at the collar. The framing and quiet gravity recall an Italian Renaissance portrait type. Jonathan Zutter was a French painter born in Monaco, trained at the Beaux-Arts de Genève, the Académie de la Grande Chaumière in Paris and the Royal Academy in The Hague; settled in Marseille from 1950, he painted portraits — young women above all — together with landscapes, marines and nudes, and is listed in Bénézit. Signed by hand.

Estimate: market estimate (not a formal appraisal) — € 200–500, to be refined after physical inspection. Zutter’s oil portraits of young women trade in the few hundred to roughly €1,000 range and his works on paper are more modest; this signed charcoal of his signature subject, with documented single-owner provenance, sits within that range.
