Printed at the Mourlot atelier in Paris in 1974, Les Anémones is one of Chagall’s exuberant flower pieces — a loose bouquet of anemones in which the artist’s characteristic reds, blues and greens dissolve the line between still life and reverie. This is the unsigned frontispiece impression of the image (Mourlot 730); a separate deluxe edition of signed artist’s proofs was printed on Japon nacré in a larger format.
