“Suite Vollard”, a set of 100 etchings, was specially created by Pablo Picasso from 1930 to 1937 at Ambroise Vollard’s request. The whole Suite was then printed by Roger Lacourière in 1939 in 50 larger copies, and 260 smaller copies.

According to the Art historian Hans Bollinger, the series was divided in seven themes, known as “La Bataille de l’Amour” “Rembrandt”, “Minotaure”, “Minotaure aveugle”, “L’Atelier du sculpteur”, “Varia”, and three Ambroise Vollard’s portraits.

The famous Art dealer, Henri Marie Petiet said “Baron Petier”, bought the majority of the plates at Ambroise Vollard’s death. The current etching “Le Viol” is directly issued from his collection, as testifies to his blind stamp.
