Günther Förg, a central figure of the post-war German avant-garde associated with painting, photography and printmaking, worked across gestural abstraction and architectural motifs. The present sheet is a broad, sweeping monochrome composition of black brushed strokes laid in horizontal bands — a dense, water-like surface characteristic of his lithographic gesture — issued in the Erker-Presse tradition of artists’ New Year greetings.
