A beached sailing boat cuts diagonally across a shore crowded with small figures — women carrying pails and bending over a tub, a man in a wide hat, bathers and strollers scattered towards a palm and a hillside town — the whole held under a band of dense hatching that darkens the sky. The soft-ground work gives the plate its uniform grainy tone throughout.
