Condition: good condition, unframed
Provenance: Livre d’Or de Yves Guérin, compiled 1963–1992 (single-owner provenance). A fine internal link: Bonnefoit was the pupil and friend of the sculptor Antoniucci Volti (no. 25 in this album), so master and pupil are both represented in the guest book.
Description: A seated frontal female nude, the body drawn in a fluid, single-stroke ink line over soft watercolour washes — grey-blue behind, reddish-brown accents at either side, ochre hair and pale, velvety flesh. Alain Bonnefoit is one of the most illustrious representatives of the École de Paris, world-renowned for the female nude, which he has made his signature subject for forty years; a pupil and friend of the sculptor Volti, who gave him his devotion to the female body, he is a master of the Japanese sumi-e single-stroke ink technique. Signed, dated and dedicated by hand.
