Plate 64 of Les Maîtres de l’Affiche, the legendary subscription series published monthly in Paris from December 1895 to November 1900 under the artistic direction of Jules Chéret and printed by Imprimerie Chaix, reproducing in collectable format the finest posters of the Belle Époque. Riquer, the leading figure of Catalan Modernisme in the graphic arts, designed this poster for the third Fine Arts and Art Industries exhibition held by the city of Barcelona in 1896: two allegorical figures of Industry and Art with palette and Venus de Milo, the arms of Barcelona and a bat, the city’s heraldic emblem, over a ground of laurel leaves.
