Description: A grape-harvest scene executed by hand in the collector’s guest book and warmly dedicated. François Bret was a French painter and a leading figure of post-war Côte d’Azur cultural life — professor at the École des Arts Décoratifs in Nice (1950), director of the Marseille École des Beaux-Arts (1961), and a producer for Télé Monte-Carlo who interviewed Picasso, Chagall and Cocteau. His work moves from an early linear, Marquet-like manner to a colour-led, near-Orphist construction in the early 1960s, the period of this sheet.
