Description: An olive tree before a Greek temple — a Mediterranean classical landscape in keeping with Douking’s painted work. Born Georges Ladoubée, Douking was a French painter and theatre set and costume designer, listed in Bénézit for his landscapes and rustic scenes, and director of the Comédie de Provence in Aix (1953–1956). He led a parallel career as a celebrated stage and screen actor — memorably for Buñuel in The Discreet Charm of the Bourgeoisie — and contributed to the artists’ sundial project at Coaraze in the Nice hinterland. Painted and dedicated by hand in the collector’s guest book.
