An ochre mas stands at left behind a dark pine and a group of black cypresses, a bare plane tree and a second farm building closing the right, the white crests of the Alpilles low on the horizon under a turquoise sky laid in dry granular strokes; a dry stone wall built up in blue, red and ochre touches occupies the right foreground. Oudot works the stone in broken, sponged colour rather than in flat tints, the drawing entirely absorbed into the touch.
