Description: A female nude seen to the waist, the body drawn in a spare, flowing contour line and the face worked in dense cross-hatching that throws one side into shadow — the sensual economy of line characteristic of Volti’s daily studies from the model. Antoniucci Volti was a French sculptor, draughtsman and lithographer of Italian origin, in the lineage of Aristide Maillol, who devoted his career to the female nude; Second Grand Prix de Rome (1936), he is held in the Musée d’Art Moderne de Paris and the Musée Volti at Villefranche-sur-Mer.
