Description: A sensitive, melancholic head of a young woman, the face delicately modelled in graphite with soft sfumato and warm sanguine accents in the hair and around the cheek, the eyes downcast and dreaming, a wide-brimmed hat lightly suggested. Marco Borgianni was a Tuscan painter and sculptor born at Vico d’Elsa in 1946, trained at the Istituto d’Arte of Siena and the Accademia di Belle Arti of Florence; a figurative artist devoted both to landscape and to the human figure, reinterpreting the classical and Renaissance sculptural tradition, he exhibited internationally (Paris 1984–88, Geneva 1988–93) and painted the Palio banner of Siena in 1997. Signed, dated and dedicated by hand.
